Organization
Administrative Structure
IPCD follows a structured hierarchy to ensure that national policy directives are implemented effectively down to the field level. This governance model supports accountability, coordinated wildlife protection operations, and quick response in priority peafowl conservation landscapes.
- Director General (IPCD): The highest authority of the department, reporting directly to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
- Additional Director General: Leads two specialized wings - Conservation Wing and Crime Control Wing.
- Regional Directors: India is operationally divided into five zones: North, South, East, West, and Central.
- Chief Wildlife Wardens: Oversee state-level implementation, legal enforcement support, and inter-departmental coordination.
- Range Forest Officers and Anti-Poaching Squads: Conduct ground patrols, surveillance, rapid response, and habitat-level protection.
Key Divisions
- Intelligence and Enforcement Wing: Works in close coordination with WCCB to trace, monitor, and dismantle poaching and illegal wildlife trade networks.
- Ecology and Research Division: Conducts peafowl census operations, disease surveillance, habitat quality assessment, and ecological trend analysis.
- Veterinary and Rescue Team: Provides 24x7 emergency rescue, treatment, rehabilitation, and clinical support for injured or diseased peafowl.
This multi-tier institutional framework ensures that IPCD remains responsive, scientifically informed, and enforcement-ready while maintaining strong collaboration with state forest administrations and national wildlife crime control mechanisms.
